I’m back: Updates, outings and more!

Hi folks! I know it’s been a while since I checked in–for all good reasons, I promise. Since our Grand Opening last month, business has certainly started rolling and we’ve been busy over here in Plainfield. There are some cool and exciting things I want to share with you that we’ve got cooking up for this spring and summer!

We just got off an eventful weekend at the Franchise EXPO in Rosemont, IL. We’re happy to be the first franchise location in the Chicagoland area because we believe in the values of Sunny Days. It was nice to share the qualities and benefits of owning a Sunny Days franchise with eager shoppers. After the EXPO, we found ourselves helping out our friends at MyoBuddy with America’s Beauty Show. Sorry girls, it’s over. But if you’ve never been there before, you must go. It’s a bit overwhelming but it was great to see so much talent in one room.

Onto our upcoming news and updates: starting in April, Sunny Days In-Home Care will have a spot in the Lakes Of Plainfield Life exclusive magazine.

Yes, it is exclusive to the residents of the neighborhood but what’s really nice about it is the opportunity to cater specifically to the needs of those who will see us in the magazine. Another valuable perk is having the chance to meet with the amazing residents of the Lakelands of Plainfield at top-notch community network events which are hosted each month.

Networking is huge in any business adventure. I especially support anything that encourages women to connect with each other. On April 29th, I’ll be attending Lady- A Women’s EXPO from 9-1pm. The best part is: IT’S FREE! So I strongly encourage you ladies to get out there if not for business, at least to shop and possibly explore business opportunities that can be life changing.

Also this spring, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for our ad at the Plainfield South High School spring and summer sports. Having exposure to so many families is sure to get the Sunny Days name in the homes! Plus, it’s good to support high school sports. I may or may not have some connection with this particular school (’07). If you want to attend a game or two, here is the sports schedule. Come on out!

Finally, we’re going to be participating in a Plainfield summer tradition starting in June. Every Tuesday, the community gathers together to check out nice rides during Cruise Nights! You’ll be able to see Sunny Days on June 6th and the 27th (pray for good weather!). Bring the family, come relax and have fun in Plainfield’s Downtown–stop at the Opera House for dinner if your feet get tired.

As always, thanks for reading and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support!

P.S. We’re ALWAYS hiring. Know someone who could be a great caregiver for those in need? Send them my way. Then ask about our referral program. Application is here.

Much love,

DeAnna

You’re Invited: A Grand Opening Event!

February is going to be a big bang for Sunny Days In-Home Care! As many of you already know, our doors have been open for a couple of weeks now. (So please, send your referrals. Clients and caregivers alike!). But this is the month we celebrate the start of our new journey. The event will be Feb. 23rd from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Since you’re reading, I’ll give you a little inside scoop.

The event is going to be held at The Opera House in Plainfield, a newish restaurant to the area. I’ve eaten there before and the food is top-notch. The Opera House was, indeed, once a real opera house. The inside of the place takes you right back to an era when folks lived elegantly. The owners of this fine establishment in some ways own much of downtown Plainfield and so far I’m impress with the level of class they bring to the table. Literally. You are treated like royalty at the Opera House. The food plus the amazing vibe is what really sold me for the venue to host the grand opening.

Many of the folks attending are business owners with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. These men and women are part of the Plainfield and Naperville Chambers of Commerce. Without the help and support from these groups, events like the grand opening couldn’t happen. I owe a special thanks to everyone involved!

We will have photography and video which will become a fun-filled promo of the entire night. So dress how you’d like to appear in a photo that will possibly be shared, you know, everywhere.

Sunny Days In-Home Care newly franchised and is based in Pennsylvania. Our founders and home office will be there celebrating with us! This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in franchising or owning a business in general to ask questions, meet and greet and most importantly, get connected!

Last, I’m planning some pretty awesome raffle prizes (if you don’t come for me or the food, come for the prizes. Seriously). There might be an Ipad. Maybe some jewelry. Perhaps a mini stay-cay. Possibly some wine. These are things I’d want at least. If you’d like to donate a raffle prize, let’s connect. You can reach me at deanna.spoerl@sunnydaysinhomecare.com.

Last-last, the owners of the Opera House also own the bar, Blu, which is directly downstairs from the restaurant. So we welcome you to hang out for the after party, too. The night’s going to be so much fun! I hope to see you there!

P.S. Bring business cards!!

Why not now?

img_0020-1

Imagine the following scenario: It’s 6 a.m. on a Monday morning. You get up to walk to the bathroom and you trip over a pile of dirty laundry. I should clean that. I’ll do the laundry this weekend. As you finish getting ready to leave your home, you look back at that pile of clothes. I’ll do it this weekend. Seriously. Before you know it, the weekend is here and that pile has nearly doubled. It’s a Saturday morning. You already know that pile is going to take at least two loads of laundry work. Well, it’s 10am and I have some errands to run. I’ll do the laundry when I get back home. Does any of this sound familiar? That is the sound of procrastination. It’s that annoying, anxious buzz in your ear and it’s a distraction from getting things done. What if I told you that you can control that sound by loudly proclaiming, “Why not now?” Let’s go back to that very first thought you had about the dirty pile of laundry. You’ve just tripped over the pile. I’ll do the laundry this weekend-but, why not now? What would stop you from putting a small load of laundry in at that very moment that you realized it needed to be done? Cut the noise out and say it out loud: Why not now?

I began saying this out loud to myself for the past week and it works! In the beginning I was only thinking it and, if you’re anything like me, you know how the mind tends to wander. I would start thinking of other things like, well, I could do it now but I’m also pretty hungry and we have leftover pizza which could go bad if I don’t eat it. Plus, I can always do it later or maybe when the kids fall asleep  — you get the point. Bottom line, it didn’t get done. Period. But the moment I decided to say the words, “why not now” out loud to myself, I felt different. It was a pep talk of sorts. And although it was from myself to myself, hearing the words out loud actually seemed to cut the buzz of procrastination off.

This new practice inspired me to dig deeper into why I was procrastinating in the first place. I’m not a lazy person and I like to think that I get stuff done. I found that I have a tendency to put off the small things that, in my mind, aren’t of the most importance. At least at the moment those things don’t seem important…until that small pile of laundry becomes an all day task.

I first challenge you to think about how often and why at times you choose to procrastinate. For me, it was about the level of importance of a task. Second, I challenge you to start asking yourself, “why not now?” when you come across something you’re about to pass up. You might surprise yourself at how much you can get done!

In the past week, I’ve also learned that even the smallest task is an integral part of my everyday life. The small things always lead to a bigger and more difficult issue to deal with as it grows. This is true for tasks as well as relationships. Have you ever wanted to talk to someone about an issue but you put it off because it didn’t seem like the right time? When is the right time? Why not now?

I’d like to end with just a few encouraging words. Wherever you are in life, always remember to set goals. Big goals and small goals. Set a goal for today. Start each day with the words, why not now? Why not today? Why can’t you reach a goal today? Here’s a secret: you can. And I believe in each one of you.
Have a happy, sunny day!
